10 SEO Tips for Better Google Rankings

By now, it’s a proven fact that you can improve your website’s page ranking if you have optimized your web copy. In fact, by doing this, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) also brings in more traffic to your site by introducing a slew of changes on your site and off it. But for all this to happen, you need to start out with preparing a strong SEO campaign.

When preparing your site, first plan its SEO. Search websites that are search engine-friendly. Then, ensure that all your web pages have the mandatory components to rank it high with search engines such as keyword rich text, links, etc.

Meta Page Titles: For SEO effectiveness, have a well written, keyword rich page title for each of your pages. Each page title should not exceed 80 characters but should be rich with keywords, and arranged in order of importance at the beginning of the tag. This not only serves as a calling card for you online but also as a marketing line that drives in the traffic to your site.

Keyword-rich text: Since your content will comprise the most part of your web pages, you will find that search engines compile word lists and phrases on URLs. To make your pages easily searchable, sprinkle these words in important HTML tags. To target your keyword research, use tools such as Google Suggest, Wordtracker or Overture.

Focused content: Ensure that your content is in sync with the keywords you drizzle all over your web pages. Along with this, offer a range of products related to your subject and create pages rich with keywords for each item you have on sale.  Also, use “long-tail” keywords that point to a specific need or service rather than use general expressions.

Update content: If your content is fresh and updated often, the spiders will crawl your pages every so often and will rank your pages high. Also, archive any announcements or bulletins or newsletters that you send to your friends and subscribers. To be seen as relevant, start a blog and watch the traffic coming in.

Collect relevant links: Don’t ever tire of collecting highly relevant inbound links. However, avoid “link farms.” Request sites with high rankings for one-way links to your site.

Place the right information in the right place: Place keywords appropriately in the content and in the code so that spiders find them and pick up your site. Put your main keywords in your code for each page in this order:

Title tag, heading and subhead tags, meta description, image tags and Alt text.

Sitemap: Sitemaps help spiders navigate through all the pages of your site and so boost your rankings on Yahoo, Google and Windows Live Search.

On page optimization: To give your site higher SEO rankings, sites are usually trimmed. Areas trimmed include meta tags revision, file renaming, heading and subhead tags, image optimization and optimizing the general website architecture.

Off-page optimization: You can attract links from subject-related sites to your site to make it more attractive to search engines and so increase your rankings.

If you follow these basic requirements of SEO, you’re sure to have a great and profitable site.
